A lacrosse player from Washington lost his life following a tragic accident during a game. Eliot Abramson, a 17-year-old from Mercer Island High School near Seattle, was participating in a college recruiting event on June 1 when the incident occurred.
Abramson, a 6-foot-2 sophomore, had been playing lacrosse on Mercer Island since he was a child. During the game, he was struck by a swiftly moving ball at the base of his neck. The ball went under the rear edge of his helmet, causing him to lose consciousness and collapse.
Spectators saw the event unfold as Abramson fell on the field. He was quickly taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he underwent emergency surgery and was placed in intensive care for nearly a week.
School officials and family members announced that Abramson passed away on June 7. His mother, Jessica Abramson-Lott, honored her son’s memory on social media, mentioning he has joined his biological father, Josef Abramson, who died when Eliot was three. She expressed comfort in knowing her son is now with his dad in heaven.
“While Eliot’s time on earth will end way too soon, we are comforted that he will be in heaven with his dad, making him laugh, playing music with his smile lighting up the room. We’re sure he’ll be doing ‘wall ball’ in the sky and rooting for all his friends.”
This incident marks the second case of a lacrosse-related death in recent years. Previously, 16-year-old Dylan Veselic of Ohio also passed away after suffering a similar injury.
