Minnesota Lynx player Kayla McBride addressed the communication issues within the WNBA concerning her exclusion from the 3-point contest. Like New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu, McBride felt she needed to clarify her absence and criticized the league’s approach.

McBride shared on her Instagram Story how she received an unofficial, indirect invitation through her agent. She highlighted that this was not a formal request from the organization.

“For those who are concerned, I was sent a half-hearted invite to the 3-point contest via a text 48 hours ago, not officially,” McBride stated on social media.

She also reacted to rumors, emphasizing that unfounded claims about her performance fears were incorrect.

McBride redirected attention to the competition’s actual participants, including Bridget Carleton of Portland Fire, Azzi Fudd from Dallas Wings, and others. She praised their shooting abilities and wished them well in the contest.

Ionescu, the current 3-point contest champion, remarked similarly, explaining she never received an official invitation and was troubled by assumptions that she opted out.

McBride’s performance this season matches her career-best from 2018, with an average of 18.2 points per game over 28 games. Despite this, she will miss the event scheduled for Friday at 8 p.m. ET, alongside Ionescu and Caitlin Clark.
