Hong shared thoughts on her son’s biracial identity in a 2021 interview with ListenMKE, mentioning his half-white, half-Korean heritage.

Hong, a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly since 2021, has seen previous social media posts and interview comments come under scrutiny as she campaigns for governor. Her remarks, often critical of whiteness, have garnered varied reactions.

Critics include Fox News contributor Paul Mauro and Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty president Rick Esenberg, who voiced concerns over her perspective. Fox News political analyst Guy Benson called it “weirdo racism.” Hong’s campaign did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Fox News Digital.

Recently, Hong campaigned alongside prominent progressives like Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar and streamer Hasan Piker. This alliance ties her to a broader national progressive movement, critiqued by Republicans as excessively left-wing.

Controversy arose from a rally where attendees needed photo ID, contrasting with opposition to voter ID laws. Wisconsin GOP candidate Tom Tiffany highlighted this inconsistency, calling it a “Fran Flip-Flop.” Americans for Prosperity’s Matt Henkel echoed these sentiments on social media.

Past social media posts have added to the scrutiny. In a 2019 post, Hong mentioned feeling anxious around “old white people” at a restaurant. In another post, she described a racial micro-aggression concerning her ramen bar.

In October 2021, Hong expressed views on law enforcement, suggesting it upholds white supremacy and advocating for police abolition. These statements continue to draw debate.
