One individual, staying near Aliki, recounted, “Fire is pretty big now,” while another in Parikia noted, “There are currently 4 choppers helping with the wildfire, plus ground support.” A third person in Antiparos mentioned, “We could see the fires from our house last night, it looked really bad. But it seems like it’s almost gone now.”

This situation is part of a broader pattern of severe wildfires across Europe this season. Earlier this month, a significant blaze near Thessaloniki, Greece’s second-largest city, highlighted the extreme fire conditions driven by record heat and dryness. Simultaneously, wildfires have ravaged parts of France and Spain, including the renowned Fontainebleau Forest near Paris, which saw roughly 4,900 acres burned.

Experts point to several contributing factors, including human activities, suspected arson, and land management, alongside the record-breaking heat that has exacerbated fire risks across the continent.
