Vice President JD Vance emphasizes the need to combat widespread fraud to protect taxpayer dollars and ensure programs like Social Security reach their rightful recipients. He plans to host members of Congress at the White House for a fraud task force meeting on Wednesday. Here, potential legislative actions will be discussed to enhance the fight against fraud.

According to a source, the meeting will see participation from roughly 20 House and Senate members. Vance aims to provide strategies for targeting fraud across states and districts. His previous White House meetings have included attorneys general and members of the administration involved in his task force.

The task force is dedicated to using all available resources to eliminate fraud. A White House official has conveyed the commitment of President Trump, Vice President Vance, and interagency partners in bringing fraudsters to justice.

Recently, the Justice Department announced the expansion of its Northeast Health Care Fraud Strike Force to Philadelphia, targeting Medicare and Medicaid fraud in home healthcare services. Pennsylvania is now part of the states with focused efforts on fraud. Federal and state law enforcement charges have been filed against 19 defendants, accused of claims totaling over $4 million.

On Sunday, Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday revealed a plea deal involving a defendant from a 21-defendant case involving $1.7 million in claims. Dr. Mehmet Oz, Administrator for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, spoke at an event in Milwaukee, highlighting the task force’s success in safeguarding taxpayer funds.

Recent actions have included suspension of payments to suspicious healthcare providers. As of May, Vance and CMS Administrator Dr. Oz have withheld over $1.4 billion in federal funding to prevent fraud.

In June, a significant increase in Medicare claims for skin substitutes was reported, with figures escalating from $200 million to $14.4 billion from 2019 to 2025. CMS found 4,200 suspicious claims, totaling $224 million.

During a Milwaukee news conference, Dr. Oz noted the financial impact these fraudulent claims have on hospital systems and physician groups.

President Trump’s executive order in May created the fraud task force, appointing Vance to lead the crackdown efforts. Various agencies and departments are actively engaged in identifying and combating fraud.
