Uganda Withdraws from Invictus Games in Support of King Charles III

Prince Harry’s Invictus Games, which celebrates wounded veterans, has encountered a setback. Uganda’s military commander announced the country’s withdrawal from the event to express support for King Charles III and the monarchy.

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces in Uganda, shared the decision publicly on social media. Known for his provocative statements online, Kainerugaba declared the withdrawal on Wednesday.

Kainerugaba, the son of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, posted on X: “In order not to be construed as being opposed to His Majesty King Charles III of the United Kingdom, whom we deeply revere, Uganda hereby withdraws from the Invictus Games. We shall not participate in anything that does not have His Majesty’s approval.”

Newsweek reached out to representatives for Prince Harry and Uganda’s media team for additional comments following the announcement.

Previously, Kainerugaba temporarily left X but returned to the platform in January 2025, promising to “shake up this world!” This latest announcement marks another instance of his active engagement on social media.

Newsweek editors Dan Orton and Tony Phillips are overseeing coverage as the story progresses.
