U.S. Nuclear Safety Decline Raises Concerns

A recent expert report highlights a significant decline in nuclear safety in the United States. The country’s score dropped by 10 points to 66 on a 100-point scale, representing the largest decrease ever reported by the Nuclear Threat Initiative.

The assessment criticized both the United States and North Korea regarding their nuclear safety practices. It indicated a “dramatic deterioration” in U.S. nuclear safety conditions. The primary reason cited for this decline was the “erosion of the independence” of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, attributed to policies during the Trump administration.
