A Nashville U-Haul employee, Devin Rice, aged 23, allegedly shot and killed his 56-year-old co-worker, Fredrick Lytton, during a shift. The incident occurred following an argument over a drink.

Rice was apprehended on August 5, as reported by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department. The victim, Lytton, succumbed to his injuries at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Rice reportedly confessed to the dispute with Lytton and admitted to the shooting.

Authorities charged Rice with criminal homicide. Witnesses said Rice fled after the shooting but was later captured by police.

Local resident Joshua Houghtaylen expressed concern over the rising crime rates in Nashville, emphasizing the need for police to tackle gun-related incidents more effectively. He remarked, “The crime here in Nashville is getting really bad. Police need to do a better job at getting the guns off the street because there’s a lot of shootings in Nashville.”

Jeff Porter, U-Haul’s area district vice president for Tennessee, conveyed shock and sadness over the incident. He emphasized the company’s focus on supporting the victim’s family and affected team members.

Lytton was remembered for his strong spirit and love of life. An obituary highlighted his dedication as a cross-country truck driver, his enjoyment of the open road, NASCAR, animals, and classic country music. It noted, “Though Fred’s life was taken too soon, his memories and the love he shared with family and friends will remain forever.”
