On Saturday afternoon, President Trump communicated via social media that a peace agreement with Iran is on the verge of completion. He noted that ‘final aspects and details of the Deal’ are under discussion and will be announced soon.
President Trump told CBS News in a phone interview that U.S. and Iranian negotiators are ‘getting a lot closer’ to finalizing a deal. According to insiders, the current proposal includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz, unfreezing some Iranian assets in foreign banks, and continuing the negotiations.
Although specifics were not provided, President Trump emphasized that the deal aims to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon. He stated that the agreement will ensure Iran’s enriched uranium is ‘satisfactorily handled.’ He clarified, ‘I will only sign a deal where we get everything we want.’
Sources indicate that President Trump is still considering different proposals and has yet to decide. He is consulting with advisors and engaging in discussions with foreign leaders. On Saturday afternoon, he conversed remotely with leaders from Gulf and other countries. Participants on the call included Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Pakistan, UAE, Jordan, and Qatar. Some regional officials noted uncertainty regarding President Trump’s stance.
President Trump warned that if a U.S.-Iran agreement isn’t finalized, ‘no country will ever be hit as hard as they’re about to be hit.’ Previously, he had threatened Iran, claiming that ‘a whole civilization will die’ without a deal and stated that ‘the Clock is Ticking.’
Secretary of State Marco Rubio hinted on Saturday that developments in the U.S.-Iran negotiations may be announced shortly. ‘There’s been some progress made,’ Rubio stated at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi, India. ‘We might have something to say, whether later today, tomorrow, or in a couple of days, but this issue needs to be solved.’
