U.S. and China to Discuss AI Transparency at Upcoming Summit

Officials from the United States and China are set to discuss increasing transparency in the realm of artificial intelligence during a summit in Washington this week.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng met on Sunday in New York City to prepare for the upcoming discussions. The meeting took place as a prelude to a larger summit involving President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Bessent noted the potential development of a ‘notification mechanism.’ This mechanism aims to enhance monitoring systems for national security incidents related to artificial intelligence. Such a step could help both nations manage and mitigate risks associated with advancements in AI technology.

The meeting emphasized the importance of collaboration between the two world powers in addressing challenges and opportunities presented by AI. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer also participated in the discussions, highlighting the broader economic implications of AI transparency and cooperation.
