Trump to Present FIFA World Cup Trophy

President Donald Trump will present the FIFA World Cup trophy to the winner of the match between Spain and Argentina this Sunday. This was confirmed by a White House official to Fox News.

Last month, FIFA President Gianni Infantino mentioned on “Fox & Friends” that he and President Trump would hand over the trophy to the captain of the victorious team at the New York/New Jersey Stadium.

Infantino also noted that Trump would attend the match. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt described the president’s participation as “a fitting conclusion to a tournament that showcased America’s ability to host the world on the grandest stage.” Trump previously participated in the FIFA Club World Cup trophy presentation after Chelsea defeated Paris Saint-Germain last summer.

Earlier in the World Cup, Trump intervened in a major controversy, contacting Infantino to request a review of Folarin Balogun’s red card. Balogun was initially suspended for Team USA’s Round of 16 match but was later deemed eligible to play.

Trump has not yet attended a World Cup match; however, Secretary of State Marco Rubio was seen at the U.S. Men’s National Team’s first game against Paraguay, resulting in a 4-1 victory on June 12.
