Trump-Endorsed Candidate Wins Alabama Republican Senate Runoff

President Donald Trump’s influence shines in the Alabama Republican Senate runoff election. The candidate he supported, Rep. Barry Moore, clinched the GOP nomination, defeating former Navy SEAL sniper Jared Hudson.

According to the Associated Press, Moore emerged victorious in this key Republican contest. Both Moore and Hudson were the leading candidates in the previous Republican primary, but neither secured over 50% of the vote, leading to the runoff.

Rep. Barry Moore, a notable figure from Alabama, stood out by saluting at the 2025 Republican National Convention’s final night. He now advances as the frontrunner to succeed Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville in the 2026 U.S. Senate race. Tuberville has chosen to run for governor instead of seeking re-election to the Senate.

Moore’s background includes founding a waste hauling company and serving as a state lawmaker. He first entered the U.S. House in 2020 and was among the initial politicians to endorse Trump in 2015.

These midterm races will determine whether Republicans hold their Senate majority.

Jared Hudson, a former Navy SEAL, ran as an outsider. He had previously edged out state Attorney General Steve Marshall to qualify for the runoff. Apart from being a combat veteran, Hudson’s experience includes serving as a sheriff’s deputy, firefighter, and small business owner. He currently leads a nonprofit dedicated to law enforcement training against human trafficking.

Hudson received endorsements from several notable figures and groups, including then-Sen. Markwayne Mullin, now Trump’s Department of Homeland Security secretary, Sen. Tim Sheehy, the National Association for Gun Rights PAC, and media personality Riley Gaines. Despite this support, Hudson fell short in the runoff.

Barry Moore will compete in November against either Dakarai Larriett, owner of a petcare business, or attorney and former judge Everett Wess.
