Tragic School Shooting Near Bangkok

A tragic event unfolded in Nonthaburi, Thailand when a student opened fire at Debsirin Nonthaburi School, resulting in the death of six people, including three teachers and three students. Several others were injured during the shooting.

Royal Thai Police spokesperson Trairong Piwpan shared details of the incident with The Associated Press. Following the shooting, the alleged shooter was hospitalized in serious condition, with 15 individuals reported injured, two critically.

The French news agency AFP noted that initial reports indicated the shooter had died, although accounts varied regarding whether it was due to police intervention or suicide.

Authorities discovered a man and a woman dead at the shooter’s residence. Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive. The weapon involved was believed to be taken from a family member.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul expressed his condolences to the victims and requested officials’ support for those affected.

The scene following the tragedy showed individuals consoling each other outside the school, as police and first responders managed the situation. A witness mentioned students hiding in a classroom, hearing gunfire from another building. Police officers eventually led them to safety.

Prior incidents include a February attack by a 17-year-old at another high school in southern Thailand, and a 2023 incident involving a 14-year-old at a Bangkok mall.
