The Comeback of Cursive Writing in Education

More than 25 states have reinstated cursive education as a required skill in schools. This shows a renewed interest in ensuring that students can read and write in cursive. Historically, cursive writing was an essential part of learning for many American children.

During the early 20th century, cursive or script was the standard writing style taught across the United States. This practice has shifted in recent years toward teaching children print writing. However, the revival of cursive in some educational systems underlines its perceived value.

Interestingly, there was a belief in the past that the quality of one’s cursive writing revealed aspects of their character. This notion contributed to its importance in educational curricula during that time.
