Teen Disturbance in New Jersey’s Shore Town Leads to Multiple Arrests

Authorities in New Jersey have arrested several individuals following a large gathering of teenagers in a peaceful shore town, which led to chaos and disruption. This incident is part of a growing trend of similar events impacting communities nationwide.

According to reports, the disturbance occurred Tuesday night in Pier Village, Long Branch. This oceanfront area, known for its hotels and rental units, was the scene of unruly behavior, including brawls and damage to vehicles. Police responded to reports of disorderly conduct, as documented by NJ.com.

Bystander footage captured police officers using riot shields to manage the crowd, with teenagers seen moving among cars as they were escorted from the area.

Arrests and Charges

Six individuals were apprehended during the event. Among them were a 19-year-old and a 20-year-old woman, as well as three teenagers, all charged with disorderly conduct. An additional arrest involved a teenager accused of evading the police.

Police are anticipating further arrests due to reports of two aggravated assaults. These incidents occurred separately, one in the first block of Centennial Drive and another at the local train station. Additionally, a vehicle theft in the area is under investigation, NJ.com reported.

Police Response

In total, around 140 law enforcement officers were sent to handle the situation. This included 69 officers from the Long Branch Police Department and approximately 70 officers from neighboring agencies.

Public Safety Director Charles Shirley Jr. emphasized the city’s zero-tolerance stance: “The City of Long Branch takes these events seriously and will not tolerate conduct that endangers residents, visitors, business owners, or our public safety personnel.” He also assured citizens of the city’s readiness to act decisively in the face of threats to public safety.

Emergency Measures

City officials imposed an emergency 8 p.m. curfew in response to the chaos. By 9:15 p.m., officers had cleared the streets. Jason DeSantis, a nearby resident, expressed his concern about the situation, mentioning continuous sirens and the aftermath at local businesses and beaches.

The event was reportedly linked to a “senior skip day” publicized on social media. DeSantis voiced frustration, wishing for more proactive measures from city leadership.

With Memorial Day weekend approaching, officials in neighboring areas like Seaside Heights are calling in federal assistance to manage anticipated crowds.

Fox News Digital has sought comments from the Long Branch Police Department. Julia Bonavita, a U.S. Writer for Fox News Digital, contributed to this report.
