A 17-year-old male is facing charges for murder following the death of a young boy on the city’s South Side. Authorities have confirmed the teen’s arrest in connection with this tragic incident.

According to the Chicago police, the teenager has been charged with one count of first-degree murder. The news was formally announced through a police release late on Friday night.

This development comes almost two months after 13-year-old DeAntwan McKeever was discovered with a gunshot injury to his head. The incident occurred in the South Chicago area on the afternoon of May 21. McKeever, originally from West Town, was transported in critical condition to Comer Children’s Hospital.

After staying in the hospital for a week, McKeever sadly succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased.

The authorities apprehended the suspect on Thursday, locating him in the 3000 block of East 79th Place within South Chicago. The suspect is due to appear in court on Saturday morning for his initial hearing.
