Virginia police have arrested a 19-year-old suspect in connection with a mass shooting at Virginia State University. The suspect, Camron Harris, is from Henrico, Virginia, and is not a student at the university. The shooting on Saturday left five individuals wounded, with one person in critical condition.

Authorities have not revealed the identities of the victims but confirmed that only one is a university student. Following the shooting, there was an extensive search, and law enforcement located Harris hiding in a closet within a campus dormitory.

Arrest Details

Police have secured felony warrants charging Harris with four counts of malicious wounding and four counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is currently held without bail at Chesterfield County Jail, with the possibility of facing additional charges.

The shooting occurred early Saturday morning, with Harris being apprehended several hours afterward.

“Officers responded to the 3300 block of Boisseau Street at approximately 1:28 a.m. and discovered five individuals suffering from gunshot wounds outside VSU residence halls,” a university representative informed Fox News Digital.

University Response

The university acknowledged the concern raised among students, parents, alumni, and the broader community. A statement on Saturday assured that there would be an increased police presence on campus as the investigation proceeds. Students are advised to check their university emails for safety updates and support resources.

The campus lockdown has been lifted, and Harris remains in custody.

Virginia State University, a historically Black university, is located in Ettrick, Virginia, roughly 25 miles south of Richmond.
