Local lawmakers in Washington, D.C., expressed surprise when the House Oversight chair proposed a new bill. This bill would mandate congressional approval for any tax initiative in D.C.

The bill was introduced by Rep. James Comer, a Republican from Kentucky. This introduction took place three months before the midterm elections. The election results will be pivotal in determining whether Republicans maintain control of the House and if Comer continues as the Oversight committee chair.
