Nearly 1,200 graduates from the Adlai E. Stevenson High School Class of 2026 celebrated their graduation at NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates on Friday, May 22. Superintendent Eric Twadell highlighted the philanthropic spirit of the graduates, identifying this trait as core to being a Stevenson Patriot.
As the graduates tossed their caps in the air, Twadell noted the significant fundraising efforts by the Class of 2026, which raised over $100,000 for various causes. ‘You didn’t just grow, you gave. And you gave generously,’ Twadell expressed from the lectern, celebrating both their skills and their generous spirits. ‘We are proud beyond words,’ he added.
Highlighting the ceremony were speeches from two seniors. Nisa Rao, in her Scriptor Address, acknowledged the selflessness of individuals contributing to the community. She thanked her classmates for being part of her journey at Stevenson. In the Gubernator Address, Sanchi Deshpande advised classmates to embrace the journey rather than focus solely on the outcome. ‘We, Patriots, do not skip to the ending. We live the journey because if we knew the ending, it wouldn’t be worth a watch,’ said Deshpande.
Among those entering NOW Arena was Joie Goldstein of Buffalo Grove, who shared her pride about being part of the Patriot community. Similarly, Karthik Pushparaj from Buffalo Grove, a parent of a graduate, expressed his wishes for his son Aditya’s future success, both academically and personally.
Parents Jam and Maru Torres attended to support their daughter, Abigail ‘Aye Jay’ Julianne Torres. ‘I’m so, so proud of her,’ Jam Torres said, noting Aye Jay as one of the best parts of his life. During the ceremony, Aye Jay expressed gratitude for her family’s sacrifices and presence at her graduation.
Karie Angell Luc covered the event, capturing the decorated mortarboards and joyful atmosphere of the graduating class.
