If Spain clinches victory, Iglesias is expected to meet President Donald Trump post-match. However, Iglesias has publicly expressed his opposition to the president.

In comments made to the Spanish media on Saturday, Iglesias shared his reluctance about shaking Trump’s hand. He humorously mentioned, “I don’t want to go to prison,” referring to the anticipated encounter. He hopes the meeting will be brief and easily forgettable, suggesting, “I hope to greet him at a time when we are all very happy, and that it passes very quickly and I can forget about it.” Iglesias prefers not to stir controversy, acknowledging that people are aware of his views.

Iglesias, known for his vocal support of pro-Palestinian demonstrators and criticism of the former Spanish soccer federation head, has never shied away from expressing his beliefs. He has criticized Trump for struggling with individuals who champion progress and essential values.

The World Cup final, where Trump will attend, follows his participation in the FIFA Club World Cup trophy presentation. Additionally, he accepted the FIFA Peace Prize from FIFA President Gianni Infantino in December 2025.
