South Carolina Woman Disappears After Leaving Gym

A 39-year-old woman from South Carolina, Elena Katherine Moore, went missing after she was last seen leaving a gym and heading toward a wooded area. This incident occurred in Lexington, a suburb west of Columbia.

According to the Lexington Police Department, Moore signed in at Planet Fitness at approximately 6:40 p.m. on Thursday. Witnesses reported seeing her walk toward a wooded area behind a nearby Lowe’s Home Improvement store. Her disappearance was reported the next day.

Moore’s sudden disappearance is considered unusual, as she works as a personal trainer, and friends and family expressed concern over her absence. The authorities noted its out-of-character nature to ABC News.

Initial search efforts began on Friday when investigators used a drone to survey the area where Moore was last spotted. Despite these efforts, the search yielded no results. By Monday, the Lexington police enhanced the search operation. They were joined by teams from various local and state agencies, including the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

The extensive search covered wooded areas behind both Lowe’s and Planet Fitness, with support from the Department of Natural Resources and other emergency services. Despite these efforts, no trace of Moore was found.

“No trace of Ms. Moore was found during the operation,” said Lexington Police Chief Terrence Green.

Elena Katherine Moore is described as a White female, standing 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing approximately 120 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. At the time of her disappearance, Moore was wearing an olive-green zip-up hoodie and black athletic pants. It remains uncertain if she had her cellphone with her.

Authorities have appealed to the public for assistance. They encourage anyone with information that could help locate Moore to contact detectives at 803-358-7271 or Midlands Crimestoppers.
