Early on Saturday, the Senate approved a bipartisan bill designed to prevent a federal government shutdown slated for October. This legislation will now proceed to the House for further consideration.

In a narrow 50-49 vote, Senators also confirmed Todd Blanche as the new attorney general. Notably, Republican Senators Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine diverged from party lines to cast opposing votes.
