Senator Jerry Moran Appeals to Trump Over Bombardier’s U.S. Operations

Republican Senator Jerry Moran of Kansas contacted President Donald Trump’s administration after the president threatened a ban on Canada’s Bombardier from selling aircraft in the U.S. unless production shifted to American soil.

On Monday, Moran addressed this issue on X, emphasizing the significant role Bombardier plays in Kansas, particularly in Wichita, and its impact on local employment. He stated, “I will continue working to see that Bombardier’s manufacturing operations not only remain in Kansas but continue to grow and create American jobs. Kansas is home to a hardworking, skilled workforce, and I will continue welcoming leaders in aircraft and defense manufacturing to do business here in the Air Capital of the World.”

Trump’s warning of banning Bombardier came shortly before Canada imposed retaliatory tariffs on $20 billion worth of U.S. goods. Trump had already placed 50 percent tariffs on $20 billion of Canadian goods, following the breakdown of trade talks between the two nations in August. Expressing his stance on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “NO MORE SELLING BOMBARDIER IN THE UNITED STATES! Their products aren’t good enough! If they want our Market, they must build here, and stop treating America like a ‘piggybank.’”

In response, Bombardier released a statement on its website, highlighting its contributions to the American aerospace sector. While the statement didn’t directly address Trump’s threat, it noted that Bombardier uses American-made components including engines and avionics, which are sourced from numerous U.S. companies.

The company explained its workforce presence across Kansas, Texas, Arizona, Florida, Connecticut, Illinois, Delaware, California, Washington D.C., and New Jersey, alongside a direct employment footprint in over 20 states. Bombardier clarified that its U.S. supply chain encompasses around 2,800 American companies across 47 states, with annual spending exceeding $2.5 billion on suppliers.

Stressing its relationship with U.S. partners and employees, Bombardier stated, “Our plan is to continue to invest in our people, our customers and the communities in which we operate across the country.”

This is a developing story. Further updates will follow as more information becomes available.
