Volunteers recently joined the search for Nancy Guthrie, Savannah Guthrie’s mother, after an anonymous tip suggested her burial in a series of unmarked graves near the Arizona-Mexico border, around 70 miles from her Arizona home. This tip has brought new urgency to the case, which has been unsolved for over four months. While initial searches have not revealed remains, authorities remain committed to chasing credible leads related to her suspected abduction and potential cross-border movement.
The tip has sparked global attention, leading volunteers and a Mexican search collective to focus on a rugged northern Mexico region called Mariposa. Despite detailed information from the tip, searches have yet to yield results.

Where Has the Nancy Guthrie Tip Led Search Teams?
A volunteer group, Buscando Corazones Nogales, received an anonymous tip about Guthrie’s burial near a stream in Mariposa, Nogales. Search efforts confirmed that this area, notorious for past clandestine graves, was thoroughly examined, uncovering no remains.
“We received an anonymous call telling us that the woman’s remains were in the Mariposa area—in a grave over a stream,” said group leader Ramona Guadalupe Ayala Ortiz to El Imparcial.
Past investigations in this region revealed numerous graves from other missing persons cases. This area remains a critical focus for ongoing searches.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department noted awareness of the recent tip but has received no contact from Mexican authorities. The investigation remains active, drawing resources from federal and local law enforcement along with private family initiatives. However, no suspects have been publicly identified.
Nancy Guthrie/Mexico Map Shows House, Unmarked Graves Location
Guthrie lived in Tucson, Arizona, 70 miles from the border. The tip directed investigation towards the Mariposa area in Sonora, known for hidden graves. The geography here is tough, marked by desert, slopes, and areas where burials may be hidden for long periods.
Despite recent discoveries of unrelated burial sites, none are linked to Guthrie. The continued lack of evidence highlights the case’s urgency and challenges. Families and officials are united in urging the public for credible information, offering a $1 million reward for any leads aiding Guthrie’s discovery.
