Russian Missile Strikes Claim Lives in Kyiv Overnight

KYIV, Ukraine — Russia launched a series of missile and drone strikes on Kyiv overnight into Monday, resulting in at least seven fatalities, according to local authorities. This attack followed a warning from Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of an impending large-scale assault.

Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s City Military Administration, reported that 24 individuals were wounded due to the strikes. On Telegram, he shared details of the damage inflicted upon the city.

A residential building in the Podilskyi district suffered partial collapse. In the Darnytsia district, several large buildings were damaged, leaving people potentially trapped under debris.

“These are residential buildings. Places where people slept and lived their ordinary lives,” Tkachenko emphasized.

The attack, continuing early into Monday, involved waves of ballistic and cruise missiles combined with drone attacks. Explosive noises were heard across Kyiv, driving civilians to seek safety in metro stations.

President Zelenskyy had earlier communicated the likelihood of another considerable Russian assault on the capital. This latest strike comes in the wake of a previous attack in Kyiv last week, which claimed at least 31 lives.

Zelenskyy reiterated requests for enhanced air defenses from Western allies. He highlighted the need for increased supplies of Patriot missiles, arguing on Telegram late Sunday that not reinforcing Ukraine’s defenses would encourage Russia to extend its ongoing conflict, now in its fourth year.
