Russian Airstrikes Resume on Kyiv After Envoy Talks

At least two individuals were killed by Russian airstrikes on Kyiv on Tuesday morning, as reported by city authorities. Moscow renewed its attacks on Ukraine following a visit by President Trump’s envoys to both nations.

Both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had paused their conflicts while Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, and special envoy Steve Witkoff conducted separate negotiations with both leaders.

On Tuesday morning, the temporary halt concluded with airstrikes resuming, according to Russia’s state news agency TASS. Loud explosions were reported across Kyiv, with city officials confirming at least two fatalities and seven injuries. Buildings in the capital were damaged, including a five-story apartment building in the Solomianskyi district. Vehicles also caught fire in the Podilskyi district, trapping residents in a residential building, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

The Polish air force indicated it was carrying out “preventive operations” due to Russia’s missile strikes, leading to the suspension of flights from Lublin Airport.

“We’ve had very meaningful discussion, substantive, important, and we’re very encouraged,” Witkoff stated after the talks, acknowledging that compromises would be needed from Russia and Ukraine to end the conflict.

Following discussions on Sunday in Kyiv, Witkoff and Kushner expressed optimism, describing their conversations as “meaningful.” This visit was a segment of a trip starting in Moscow, aimed at ceasing the ongoing Russian invasion now exceeding four years.

A high-ranking Ukrainian official, anonymously sharing with The Associated Press, stated that discussions largely revolved around preparations for the coming winter and potential actions before then.

Before departing for Moscow, President Trump mentioned their mission to reporters, noting they were equipped with a plan to resolve the conflict, hinting at a “good chance” for success.

Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov later conveyed that American officials had thoroughly prepared for this mission, outlining several settlement proposals, without providing further detail.
