Speaking on Tuesday, O’Donnell mentioned that recent developments have brought her back into the spotlight. The former co-host of The View joked with host Amy Poehler on Good Hang that Trump’s actions have inadvertently boosted her career. She humorously referred to Trump as ‘Mango Mussolini’ and stated, ‘If he knew how much he was helping my career and my life, he would stop talking about me.’

The longstanding rivalry between O’Donnell and Trump is well-documented. O’Donnell, one of Trump’s most vocal critics, has relocated to Ireland following Trump’s victory over Kamala Harris in the 2024 election. The comedian remains active in the media space, appearing on various podcasts and shows. She is also set to guest host Jimmy Kimmel Live for a week.

The White House highlighted a Truth Social post by Trump, dated June 6, to Fox News Digital. The post contained images implying O’Donnell’s supposed obsession with Trump. Despite their rivalry, O’Donnell believes her shared New York roots with Trump have fueled their public exchanges.

In a July interview with Variety, O’Donnell pointed out that people often compare her voice to Trump’s, a comparison she strongly dislikes. Reflecting on their shared history, she theorized that her outspoken demeanor in her younger years left an impact on Trump. According to O’Donnell, she evokes memories of his childhood challenges, leading to what she describes as a PTSD-like response from Trump.

O’Donnell shared these sentiments again on Sophia Bush’s Work in Progress podcast. She expressed that Trump may have grown up with women like her, whom he dislikes, and that he is fixated on her out of fear.

Additionally, O’Donnell hinted at a possible return to The View for a special 30th anniversary episode. Despite rumors, the show’s producer, Brian Teta, clarified no official invitations had been sent, indicating plans are still in progress.
