Mediators have reported progress in peace talks between the United States and Iran. The aim is to transform an incomplete truce into a lasting peace deal within 60 days. Representatives from Pakistan and Qatar expressed optimism, stating that Vice President JD Vance and his Iranian counterparts are making strides toward a final agreement. The Swiss officials labeled the talks as ‘constructive.’
Despite the positive outlook, challenges remain. The discussions are taking place at the luxury Bürgenstock Resort at Lake Lucerne, Switzerland. While progress is evident, the negotiators face potential setbacks and the process may not be smooth.
There was a temporary walkout by Iran’s delegation, led by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the speaker of Parliament. This was in response to a social media post by President Trump threatening to resume American attacks on Iran if no deal was reached. The delegation later rejoined the talks.
Crucial topics at the resort are not yet settled, indicating potential hurdles ahead. However, the continued dialogue suggests a commitment to finding a resolution.
