Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Plan Move Back to the UK with Their Children

Reports indicate that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle intend to move back to the United Kingdom later this month with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. This decision comes six years after they stepped away from their royal duties and settled in California.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex plan to relocate to a private residence outside London. Their children are set to begin attending a British school in September. The move is documented by the BBC, following reports from The Telegraph and The Sun.

According to sources, King Charles III has been informed of the couple’s decision and reportedly welcomes the chance to spend more time with them in private. Prince William and Kate Middleton have also been notified. Despite the move, Harry and Meghan do not plan to resume their duties as working royals and will maintain their status as private individuals.

Meghan Markle’s last visit to the UK was in September 2022 to join the royal family in mourning the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. The move back to the UK follows a July meeting between the Sussexes and King Charles at Highgrove House. This was the first time in more than four years the King had seen Archie and Lilibet in person, according to reports.

Since leaving royal duties in 2020, Harry and Meghan settled in Montecito, California. Their relationship with the royal family has faced strain, partly due to their public comments in interviews, a Netflix docuseries, and Harry’s memoir, ‘Spare.’ Harry continues to express a desire to reconcile with his family, though security concerns remain a significant issue. The Duke of Sussex lost a legal battle over police protection levels in the UK, affecting his willingness to bring Meghan and their children to Britain.

Although the planned relocation might not include a return to royal duties, experts suggest there is potential for Harry to support his family privately. Kinsey Schofield, a royal commentator, highlights that private family support differs from public royal duty, noting the monarchy’s adaptation to a smaller working team.
