The NFL preseason is underway, with teams currently engaged in training camps as they prepare for the regular season, which starts on September 9. In anticipation, we’ve been examining key offseason developments for all 32 NFL teams. This includes assessing crucial position battles, evaluating rookies poised to secure starting roles, and identifying players at risk of being released. We’ve ranked coaches, quarterbacks, running backs, and wide receivers by division. Now, our focus shifts to evaluating the tight end groups within the AFC South.

Indianapolis Colts’ Tight End Strength

The Indianapolis Colts lead the AFC South in tight end strength. Tyler Warren, picked 14th in the 2025 draft, made a significant impact with 76 catches, 817 receiving yards, and four touchdowns in his rookie year. Warren is quickly becoming a standout young tight end. Alongside him, Will Mallory, Mo Alie-Cox, and Drew Ogletree offer depth and versatility, contributing in various roles.

Consistency in Houston Texans

The Houston Texans’ tight end unit, spearheaded by Dalton Schultz, holds the second spot. Schultz has established himself as a reliable performer since 2020, consistently achieving over 53 catches and 530 yards annually. His previous season peak was 82 catches and 777 yards. Cade Stover serves effectively as a backup, while Brevin Jordan has potential if he can stay healthy.

Tennessee Titans Adjustments

Gunnar Helm leads the Tennessee Titans’ tight end group following Chig Okonkwo’s move to Washington. Helm outpaced Okonkwo in receptions last season with 44 catches, totaling 357 yards and two touchdowns. Daniel Bellinger, transitioning from the Giants, brings 88 career receptions, 934 yards, and four touchdowns over four years, making him an excellent backup for Helm.

Jacksonville Jaguars’ Tight End Prospects

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ tight ends rank fourth. Brenton Strange delivered 46 receptions, 540 yards, and three touchdowns in 2025. Although less impactful than Evan Engram, Strange remains vital, supported by Jacksonville’s strong wide receiver lineup. With Nate Boerkircher and Tanner Koziol acquired in the 2026 draft’s second and fifth rounds, respectively, the Jaguars intend to employ various tight end formations effectively.
