Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos maintains an optimistic outlook regarding the resolution of the Nancy Guthrie abduction case. Over 25 weeks have passed since the 84-year-old mother of ‘Today’ co-host Savannah Guthrie was abducted from her home in Tucson, Arizona.
In a ‘Today’ interview, Nanos emphasized the amount of DNA evidence requiring analysis. He remarked, “We have so much DNA to sort through.” He further mentioned the extensive video evidence under review, bolstering his confidence in resolving the case.
Savannah Guthrie, alongside her mother’s continued absence, made a public plea via Instagram. She addressed the abductors directly, encouraging them to come forward and reveal her mother’s whereabouts. Before releasing the video, Guthrie consulted with law enforcement.
NBC colleague Erin McLaughlin noted the timing of Savannah’s message might suggest a new communication line. However, law enforcement has not provided recent public investigation updates.
FBI Director Kash Patel offered insight into the investigation’s technical aspects. He explained how investigators retrieved recordings from Guthrie’s Nest doorbell camera to prevent deletion. This video became available on February 10.
The investigation involves scrutinizing video and DNA evidence. Deputies searched neighborhoods around Nancy Guthrie’s and her daughter’s homes for more clues.
Retired FBI supervisory agent Jason Pack, observing the case, believes numerous leads are pursued. He emphasized, “It’s not considered cold until every potential lead is explored,” indicating ongoing efforts.
Pack stated, “With the substantial DNA and video evidence at hand, the investigation remains active until these leads are addressed.” He highlighted the volume of digital evidence involved.
