Police-Involved Shooting in Minneapolis Leaves Multiple Casualties

A police-related shooting in downtown Minneapolis resulted in several injuries, including two police officers, as authorities confirmed to Newsweek on Wednesday. The station detailed that one officer was hit in the stomach and another in the leg. As of 5:39 p.m. local time, one officer was in surgery. The other officer’s injuries were not life-threatening. By 6 p.m. local time, officials had not confirmed the reported fatalities or the conditions of all those involved.

Footage shared on social media showed heavily armed officers pointing rifles at an apartment tower near the Minneapolis Convention Center. Residents were advised to steer clear of the nearby Loring Park area as the active law enforcement response developed in one of the city’s busiest neighborhoods.

Federal, Minnesota Officials React to Minneapolis Shooting

FBI Director Kash Patel announced on X that the FBI is aware of the incident in Minneapolis and is deploying personnel to support local authorities. The bureau emphasized its readiness to assist with any necessary resources.

The ATF in St. Paul also communicated on X, stating that special agents were responding to reports of an active shooter near East Grant St. and South Marquette in downtown Minneapolis.

Governor Tim Walz conveyed on X that his public safety team is on-site in response to the downtown shooting. He assured that state officials are aiding local law enforcement and will provide more information as it emerges. Walz further expressed gratitude to law enforcement officers actively safeguarding the community.

Minnesota House Speaker Lisa Demuth posted on X her awareness of the shooting reports. She extended prayers for the victims of this crime and appreciation for the substantial response from law enforcement personnel.
