Minneapolis Shooting: Fatalities and Injuries Reported

One person was killed, and several others were injured in a downtown Minneapolis shooting on Wednesday. Among the injured were two police officers, according to officials. The incident unfolded around 5:10 p.m. local time, as announced on social media by the city.

Hennepin County Medical Center confirmed the presence of seven patients, one of whom had died. However, details on the conditions of the injured individuals were not readily available.

The Minneapolis Police Department responded to the shooting near 15 E Grant St, involving multiple victims, including the officers. Aerial footage from NBC affiliate KARE displayed a significant police presence, featuring armored vehicles and SWAT personnel.

The exact number of wounded individuals and their conditions remain uncertain. A witness recounted to KARE hearing gunshots from inside a building and observing a person down. She quickly exited the premises, hearing an estimated 25 to 30 shots as officers entered the apartment building.

Video captured from the scene displayed police vehicles with active sirens and lights. Authorities have advised people to steer clear of a large portion of the city, including Loring Park.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz expressed his gratitude towards law enforcement for their active response to safeguard citizens in Downtown Minneapolis. He stated that his public safety team was also en route to the scene. Governor Walz remarked on social media, “Minnesota is praying for our first responders.”

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives stationed in St. Paul confirmed its involvement in the situation. FBI Director Kash Patel also noted that his agency was informed and ready to support local authorities with necessary resources.
