The Philadelphia Phillies achieved an impressive milestone in their game against the New York Mets, fueled by the remarkable performances of Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper.
Schwarber showcased his power by hitting three home runs, including two in the third inning. He launched his first from an astounding 456 feet, followed by a 457-foot blast off Mets reliever Cionel Pérez. He concluded his night with a two-run homer in the seventh inning, raising his league-leading home run total to 28. This marked Schwarber’s fifth career game with three home runs.
Harper added to the excitement with a solo home run in the first inning, followed by a double and a single in the third. His two-run triple in the fifth inning completed the cycle, the first of his career and the 11th in Phillies history. His outstanding achievements brought his season home run total to 16.
The Phillies’ offensive surge led to a commanding 15-3 victory over the Mets. Cristopher Sanchez contributed on the mound, allowing one earned run over six innings, maintaining his ERA at 1.80. This was his 23rd successive start at Citizens Bank Park where he allowed two or fewer earned runs, making him second-most in MLB history at a single venue since 1913.
Schwarber has now joined an elite group, becoming the 67th player in MLB history to hit multiple home runs in a single inning. He is the second player to achieve this feat in the season, following Houston’s Yordan Alvarez. Furthermore, Schwarber is the fourth Phillies player to record two home runs in an inning, joining Trea Turner, Von Hayes, and Andy Seminick.
The exciting series between the Phillies and Mets will conclude Sunday night, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:20 p.m. ET.
