A McDonald’s restaurant in Northeast Ohio transformed into a wedding venue last Saturday as Jamie and George Callicoat, two coworkers, tied the knot. Despite the dining room being closed for the ceremony, customers continued to visit the lobby. Bride Jamie Callicoat, from Akron, recalled handing out sauces to a customer in her wedding dress.
The drive-thru stayed open, and some customers even ordered at the kiosks during the event. Jamie described the day as a blend of work and wedding, saying, “It’s still work, if you’re there off the clock, on the clock, whatever.” Even the venue, McDonald’s, played a part in decorating for the occasion.
“Social media content surrounding the wedding has already generated more than 20 million impressions across Instagram and Facebook,” McDonald’s of Northeast Ohio reported.
The couple met at Cedar Point in Ohio in June 2025 and began dating soon after. Jamie, who started working at McDonald’s in Akron in October 2025, was trained by George. Their relationship grew, leading to their engagement at Cedar Point.
Initially, they planned to wed at Cedar Point, but a district manager’s suggestion to marry at McDonald’s sparked a new plan. With support from their coworkers and McDonald’s, what began as a joke became reality.
Crew members and managers contributed to making their day special, providing dinner, cake, and support. The husband of the restaurant’s general manager officiated the ceremony. McDonald’s provided the venue, making the event cost-effective. Jamie said the decision to marry at McDonald’s emerged after ensuring they were serious about the suggestion.
The menu featured pulled barbecue chicken, buffalo chicken dip, homemade rigatoni, and fried chicken. Kids enjoyed McDonald’s meals, and the flower girl tossed petals from a Happy Meal box.
The viral wedding also garnered attention online. The official McDonald’s Instagram remarked, “A modern day love story.” George assured everyone that their location’s ice cream machine was in working order, noting, “Ours is always working, unless it’s being cleaned.”
Jamie praised the experience: “We had a great time. Our coworkers are amazing, our bosses are amazing, and McDonald’s is amazing for allowing us to do this.” McDonald’s general manager, Tammy Snider, emphasized the event’s focus on celebration and community. She stated, “Our restaurants are places where friendships are made, milestones are celebrated.”
