Nevada’s Lieutenant Governor Stavros Anthony has proposed an ambitious plan to advance space tourism in the Silver State. With Elon Musk’s significant business presence in Nevada, Anthony believes potential collaboration could accelerate the state’s entertainment industry.
Anthony has a diverse background that includes nearly three decades in law enforcement. He served as a regent in Nevada’s higher education system and was a long-time member of Las Vegas’ city council. His political career gained momentum with his spirited mayoral campaign in Las Vegas. Since 2022, he has worked alongside Governor Joe Lombardo, with whom he achieved a notable victory over the incumbent Democratic leaders in one of the nation’s few successful Republican tickets during that election cycle.
Recently, Anthony spoke with Fox News Digital at FreedomFest in Las Vegas. He reflected on his career and shared insights into Nevada’s economy, hinting at the competitive nature of the 2026 gubernatorial race.
“The sports industry in Nevada has grown remarkably in the past decade,” Anthony noted. “We went from having no major sporting events to hosting baseball, hockey, football, basketball, F1, and NASCAR. Las Vegas is a city where anything is possible, and the entertainment industry will decide the next big thing.”
Anthony has expressed a particular interest in space tourism. He posits that Nevada’s vast, open land offers ample opportunity for someone, like Elon Musk, to launch rockets into space, potentially creating a unique tourist experience. He emphasizes that advancements in tourism will depend heavily on private sector innovation, advocating for entrepreneurs to spearhead this development.
Anthony’s career with the Las Vegas Metro Police Department laid the groundwork for his problem-solving approach in politics. He views governance as a way to improve community quality of life, akin to his experiences in law enforcement.
“A significant part of police work is about solving problems,” Anthony explained. “As an elected official, my role is to engage with communities, identify issues, and work on solutions that enhance residents’ lives without imposing higher taxes or overwhelming regulations.”
Endorsed by former President Donald Trump, Anthony believes the “no tax on tips” policy will drive electoral success in November. Trump’s endorsement supports the Lombardo/Anthony ticket, reflecting the administration’s positive impact on Nevada’s economy.
Anthony’s political philosophy is deeply rooted in the values instilled by his immigrant parents from Cyprus. They emphasized hard work, self-reliance, and the American dream, shaping his approach to public service.
“My parents taught me the importance of working hard and being self-sufficient,” Anthony shared. “They believed in minimal reliance on government services, focusing instead on personal responsibility and the pursuit of the American dream.”
