Monica Lewinsky Reflects on Shame and Self-Acceptance

Monica Lewinsky recently shared her thoughts on overcoming shame during an episode of her podcast, Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky. She spoke with actress Jamie Lynn Sigler about Sigler’s memoir, And So It Is…: A Memoir of Acceptance and Hope. Lewinsky expressed that the title was meaningful to her.

“It’s such a big part of reclaiming. You really can’t move through all the steps until you’ve had acceptance,” Lewinsky noted.

She discussed her journey of integrating the different versions of herself, not leaving her identity as a White House intern behind. She emphasized the importance of acceptance in moving forward.

Lewinsky’s experience in the public eye began in 1998 when her relationship with then-President Bill Clinton became public. This led to considerable media scrutiny and public ridicule. During her conversation, she shared how past experiences allow her to empathize with friends in need of support.

Her adaptation to disassociation during the scandal is a coping mechanism she described. Lewinsky also engaged in significant energy work, which involves managing negative energy and thoughts.

Despite the challenges, she reflected on the miraculous aspects of her journey and the insights gathered over the years. Lewinsky’s narrative demonstrates resilience amid adversity, focusing on self-acceptance and personal development.
