Musician and Family Tragically Killed in Mexico

A heartbreaking incident occurred in the Zona Esmeralda area of Atizapán de Zaragoza, near Mexico City. A musician, his pregnant wife, their 3-year-old daughter, and the family’s nanny were found shot and killed inside a residential building.

The State of Mexico Prosecutor’s Office discovered the victims alongside an unharmed 6-year-old boy. The musician, identified as Jonathan Meléndez, was part of the Mexican band Camilo Séptimo. The prosecutor’s statement reported the victims’ identities as a 38-year-old male music producer and composer, his 35-year-old pregnant wife, their young daughter, and a 21-year-old woman.

The victims were tragically found with gunshot wounds. Two were bound, and the 3-year-old girl was shot in the head. Another victim suffered a gunshot wound to the back.

The authorities have arrested two men in connection to the crime, Diego Sebastián “N” and Gerardo “N.” The killings are believed to have occurred on Tuesday, September 1, between 5:30 p.m. and 7:40 p.m. The suspects reportedly exploited a relationship of trust with the family to gain access to the residence.

Following the incident, the musician’s band, Camilo Séptimo, expressed their sorrow and shared their condolences on Instagram. “We will always remember Honas with immense love and gratitude,” they said. They honored Meléndez’s life, music, and the time shared with him.

Mexico’s secretary of security and citizen protection, Omar García Harfuch, emphasized the swift action taken by authorities. “Given the gravity of the crime, the institutions acted immediately and in a coordinated manner,” he stated. The suspects are in custody and are expected to face justice.
