Authorities have identified the victims from the recent Minneapolis apartment shooting that resulted in the deaths of two civilians and injuries to two police officers. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) confirmed the identities of the civilians as Dale Henry Spry, aged 63, and Muse A. Afrah, aged 61. One victim died on-site, while the second succumbed to injuries at a hospital.
The shooting incident took place in an apartment complex where 35-year-old Carlton Neal Johnson II initiated gunfire. Johnson was subsequently shot and killed in an exchange with police. An autopsy revealed multiple gunshot wounds, and his death was ruled a homicide.
Injured in the event were two Minneapolis Police Department officers: Joseph Michnowski, with five years of service, and Yahye Ahmed, nearly completing his second year, as stated by the BCA. Ahmed has been discharged from the hospital, but Michnowski remained under medical care as of Thursday.
Garrett Parten, an MPD spokesperson, reported that one officer suffered a leg wound deemed non-life-threatening, and the other required surgical intervention. Additionally, Ernest Boateng, another officer involved, was injured by glass while breaking into a locked police vehicle; his injuries were not due to gunfire.
The BCA identified Liban Mohamed Ibrahim, a two-year veteran of the MPD, as the officer who discharged his firearm during the incident. Investigators are assessing whether other officers also fired their weapons.
The tragic event unfolded during a domestic child custody exchange involving a woman previously linked with Johnson. Reports indicate Johnson shot the woman outside the building, then moved indoors, shooting another facility worker. On the ninth floor, he tragically shot two residents who later died.
Johnson’s eviction process from the apartment building was under review, based on court records obtained by Fox9 Minneapolis. It is not yet clear if the victims were specifically targeted.
