The contest opened after Democratic Governor Tim Walz chose not to run for a third term. Klobuchar quickly entered the race, leveraging her well-established presence in the U.S. Senate. Her commanding name recognition and party support enabled her nearly 90 percent nomination win.
In May, Klobuchar secured endorsement from Minnesota’s Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party. On primary night, Demuth triumphed over fellow Republicans Mike Lindell and Kendall Qualls. Although polling before the primary suggested Lindell had an initial advantage, Demuth’s lead solidified as the campaign closed.
Polling Insights
Public polling for the general election matchup shows Klobuchar leading but the margin narrows against Demuth compared to Lindell. A June Mason-Dixon poll indicated Demuth is most competitive against Klobuchar, with Klobuchar at 48 percent and Demuth at 40 percent. Qualls fared less successfully, trailing Klobuchar by 11 points.
An Emerson College poll earlier in the year reported similar results, identifying a 13-point lead for Klobuchar over Demuth. Klobuchar maintained a substantial advantage over Lindell, with a lead of 22 points.
Prediction markets remain confident in Democrats retaining the seat, marking a 94 percent chance of outcome stability.
