Mike Lindell, the founder of MyPillow and known for denying the 2020 election results, has initiated legal action against the Minnesota Secretary of State and other election officials. He contends they altered the scope of a possible recount in the state’s GOP gubernatorial primary.
Lindell was defeated in the primary on August 11 by State House Speaker Lisa Demuth, trailing by approximately 45,000 votes. Initially, Lindell announced he would pay $825,000 for a complete hand recount and audit, despite finishing second in a field of seven candidates, even with an endorsement from Donald Trump.
However, the deadline for this payment has passed without Lindell fulfilling his promise. Lindell informed NBC News that he opted not to proceed with the payment after learning that any recount would solely address the votes cast for him or Demuth, and not all the candidates in the race.
