At least 10 individuals were injured in a mass shooting event in the heart of Tucson, Arizona, in the early hours of Sunday. The incident occurred when a gunman opened fire in a bustling entertainment area, as reported by officials.
The shooter, whose details remain undisclosed, attempted to escape the scene but was shot by a police officer responding to the incident, the Tucson Police Department (TPD) confirmed. He is currently hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

No casualties were reported, though nine people sustained gunshot wounds. Mayor Regina Romero noted that these injuries were mostly to the arms and legs.
“Last night, Tucson experienced another serious and senseless act of gun violence,” Romero stated. “A shooter recklessly started firing in a crowded area, hitting nine people before a Tucson Police Officer intervened.”
The shooting took place around 2 a.m. in the vicinity of East Congress Street, an area renowned for its nightlife attractions. Nearby officers responded promptly upon hearing multiple gunshots, encountering a suspect fleeing the scene.
Police Intervention
Despite repeated commands to halt, the suspect continued to flee, prompting a police officer to fire and wound him, according to TPD. After capturing the suspect, officers provided initial medical assistance before Tucson Fire Department staff transported him to a hospital.
Emergency medical aid was also administered by officers to several victims prior to the arrival of firefighters, who ensured all individuals were transported to hospitals for further treatment.

Thankfully, no officers suffered injuries during this incident.
“Thanks to the quick actions and excellent care provided by our firefighters and police officers, all victims were stabilized and taken to the hospital where we are hopeful they will all recover,” stated Mayor Romero.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is heading the inquiry into the officer-involved shooting, while TPD is conducting a separate investigation to assess any policy breaches.
