Over the weekend, Marist’s Haven Enselman achieved a major milestone by surpassing the 1,000-assist mark in her high school career. This accomplishment is impressive for a setter who is only six matches into her sophomore season.
Enselman expressed her excitement about reaching this goal, saying, “It’s definitely been a dream of mine to hit 1,000, but it makes you want to work and go for 2,000 or 3,000.” By the end of Saturday’s matches, she had accumulated 1,034 assists.
During the tournament, Enselman contributed 25 assists, eight digs, and four kills, guiding the RedHawks to victory against Lockport 25-8, 25-11 in the Mizuno Crimson Classic held at the Great Lakes Volleyball Center in Aurora. Marist’s team included Michigan recruit Maggie Kurpeikis and Western Michigan commit Taylor Berg; both added eight kills each and were named co-MVPs of the tournament alongside Enselman.
Natalie Bochantin led Lockport with seven assists and made the all-tournament team along with Hutsyn Timosciek and Kyla Mitchell. Lockport reached the finals after defeating Benet, and Marist overcame Lincoln-Way East with decisive set scores.
Enselman’s success in achieving 1,000 assists has come quickly, almost going unnoticed without a ceremony to celebrate. Coach Jordan Vidovic commented on Enselman’s rapid pace, stating, “That is fast.” He praised her ability to run a fast offense, highlighting the speed with which she delivers the ball to hitters.
Teammate Taylor Berg spoke highly of Enselman’s impact on the team, saying, “She keeps the tempo going. She has very good energy and keeps the intensity up.” Vidovic also shared his approach to coaching Enselman, emphasizing that he challenges her rigorously in practice.
Enselman enjoys Vidovic’s challenges, as she believes they make her a better player, teammate, and person. Her goal is to pattern her game after Nebraska’s Bergen Reilly, a three-time All-American.
