U.S. Capitol Police have arrested Philan-Tam-Duy Le, a man from Julian, California, after discovering a guillotine in the bed of his pickup truck. According to the police, Le, aged 35, faced charges for carrying a dangerous weapon. The arrest occurred as his vehicle was found parked along the 100 block of East Capitol Street.
The authorities stated that Le drove from California to Washington, D.C. Capitol Police are currently investigating his background to determine his motives for traveling to the area. The guillotine was seized after officers noticed the item in the truck, which was illegally parked near important landmarks like the Capitol and the Supreme Court.
Notably, the arrest took place during a congressional recess, meaning lawmakers were not actively present in Washington. An Instagram account, seemingly belonging to Le, displayed a Story featuring a video filmed outside FBI headquarters. In this video, an individual standing next to the guillotine comments about being there, captioning it as “Guillotine adventures.” The post also hinted at a visit to Capitol Hill next.
Capitol Police frequently make arrests beyond Capitol grounds, and such incidents may not always have political motivations.
