Leadership Changes at Good Good Golf Amid Controversial Ad Fallout

The ongoing controversy surrounding Good Good Golf and its contentious advertisement has reached a new phase. Two prominent figures within the company have stepped down. Joe Flannery, who was recently appointed as President, is leaving his position shortly after the ad’s release. Additionally, CEO and co-founder Matt Kendrick is departing following his public criticism of Callaway, after they severed ties with Good Good due to the ad.

A memo from Good Good’s operations and finance leader, Alex Puchala, informed the company of these changes. Puchala also announced co-founder Nahid Giga as the interim CEO. This development comes amid the backdrop of the 2025 Tour Championship Creator Classic at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, where Garrett Clark, a key figure in Good Good, is actively participating.

Controversial Advertisement and Its Consequences

Good Good, a popular YouTube channel and golf apparel brand, collaborated with Callaway in late August to promote a new driver. An advertisement was released featuring co-founder Garrett Clark engaging in an inappropriate act, which sparked backlash. Despite the ad’s deletion and multiple apologies from both companies, the repercussions have been significant. Callaway ended its partnership with Good Good, the brand’s PGA Tour collaboration dissolved ahead of its scheduled November tournament, and multiple retailers pulled Good Good products from their shelves.

A statement from Callaway’s CEO, Chip Brewer, acknowledged deficits in their content review process. The company has since taken corrective measures to tighten approval procedures to prevent similar issues in the future.

Kendrick’s Response and Subsequent Developments

Callaway admitted to initially approving the advertisement. Their decision to later terminate the partnership led Matt Kendrick to criticize the golf manufacturer openly on social media. On August 28, Kendrick expressed frustration over Callaway’s actions through a post on X, accusing them of orchestrating a media campaign and attempting to diffuse the situation monetarily.

Kendrick hinted at potential legal actions against Callaway but later deleted those posts. Despite the turmoil, Good Good’s YouTube channel with over 2 million subscribers continues to release new content.
