Colorado Representative Lauren Boebert is providing support for her son, Tyler J. Boebert, in light of recent charges against him concerning the sexual exploitation of a child. Tyler, aged 21, was taken into custody in Garfield County, Colorado, facing five felony charges related to the alleged incident.

In a statement to Newsweek, Lauren Boebert expressed love for her son and emphasized the seriousness of the allegations. She mentioned that they are praying for everyone affected during this challenging time. Further details related to the accusations, which reportedly occurred in early 2024, will be made available shortly, according to court records.

“I love my son,” Lauren Boebert said in her statement. “We take these allegations very seriously and pray for everyone affected during this challenging time.”

According to court documentation obtained by Newsweek, the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office detained Tyler Boebert on Sunday. He was subsequently released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on August 19. Efforts to reach his attorney, Joseph Gavaldon, for comments were unsuccessful.

The charges add to Tyler Boebert’s previous legal issues, including a misdemeanor child abuse charge in February due to his 2-year-old son wandering out of a Colorado home. Lauren Boebert acknowledged the incident, stating there was no excuse but noting that a kind neighbor safely secured the child.

The congresswoman also referenced her son’s past legal challenges, including an arrest linked to vehicle and credit card theft. She expressed heartbreak over his situation, highlighting that her son has faced difficult public scrutiny despite efforts to aid him in stabilizing his life.

“It breaks my heart to see my child struggling and in this situation, especially when he has been provided multiple opportunities to get his life on track. I will never give up on him and I will continue to be there for him.” Lauren Boebert reiterated her commitment to her son’s welfare in The Denver Post.

Tyler Boebert entered a guilty plea to attempted identity theft as part of an agreement and received probation earlier. Lauren Boebert, who represents Colorado’s 4th congressional district, is a mother of four boys. She divorced Jayson Boebert in 2023, and Tyler’s son, her grandchild, was born earlier the same year.
