Latino Voters Shift Away From Trump Ahead of Midterms

A recent poll conducted by NBC News and Telemundo reveals a significant shift among Latino voters away from President Donald Trump and the Republican Party ahead of the midterm elections. The survey, which included 800 registered Latino voters across the United States from September 21 to 28, shows a disapproval rate of 69% for Trump’s performance, while only 27% approve.

The poll also indicates that 66% of Latino voters believe Trump’s deportation policies are excessive, and 75% criticize his handling of the economy and living costs.

The president’s policies have not resonated well with Latino voters, leading to questions about their impact on the upcoming elections.

Democrats maintain a substantial advantage over Republicans among Latino voters, despite recent gains by the GOP within this demographic. When asked which party should control Congress, 59% of Latino voters expressed a preference for Democrats, compared to 35% for Republicans. This represents a 12-point lead as elections approach, showing that Trump and the GOP have lost ground gained previously with Latino voters.

Historically, Latino support for Republicans was notably lower. In 2016 and 2018, only 21% and 26% of Latino voters supported a GOP Congress. However, these figures have improved since then.

The poll, conducted through phone interviews and online surveys via text message, reports a margin of error of 3.5%. The findings align with other polls indicating Democrats have strong support heading into the midterms. Fox News Power Rankings forecast Democrats winning 215 seats in the House of Representatives against 201 for the GOP, needing three more victories from 19 toss-up races to secure a majority. Republicans, on the other hand, would need to win at least 17 of those races.

During a political rally in Dayton, Ohio, Trump dismissed the credibility of bad polling numbers, claiming they fail to consider his influence on the elections due to his active campaigning.

Trump stated, “These fake polls, they don’t account for one thing. They don’t account for the fact that Trump is out campaigning.”

He reassured supporters by asserting his past successes in electoral battles and expressed optimism about defeating perceived threats.
