Lane Kiffin returned to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Saturday night to coach his LSU Tigers against his former team, Ole Miss. The atmosphere was charged, with Ole Miss fans delivering a chilly reception.
Pete Golding and the Ole Miss Rebels claimed a 32-24 victory, thrilling the record-setting crowd of 70,033 attendees. This match marked a historic attendance for the program.
Post-game, Kiffin described the intense environment as a “buzz saw” for his team. “The stadium was full an hour early,” he remarked. “I guess I had to leave to get them to do that. You’re welcome,” he added, reflecting on the team he left behind.
Kiffin parted ways with his 11-1 Ole Miss squad before their College Football Playoff journey last year to take on the head coach role at LSU. The Tigers secured wins against Clemson and Louisiana Tech in previous games. However, this clash against Ole Miss marks his first defeat as LSU’s head coach.
Ole Miss continues their strong start to the season with a 3-0 record. They now look ahead to their upcoming road game against the Florida Gators.
