Kylian Mbappé’s Heated Exchange with Orlando Gill Highlights France vs. Paraguay Match

French World Cup star Kylian Mbappé faced a tense post-match incident with Paraguay’s goalkeeper Orlando Gill on Saturday, following France’s 1-0 victory in the Round of 16. The game took place at Philadelphia Stadium.

Mbappé scored the game’s only goal on a penalty in the 70th minute. After the victory, he engaged with the crowd, which led to a confrontation with Gill. The goalkeeper initially extended his hand for a handshake but then threw the ball at Mbappé after being ignored.

“I tried to shake his hand, but since he didn’t pay me any attention, I lost my temper,” Gill said.

This incident marked the end of a physically demanding match. Paraguay’s players engaged in several intense moments with Mbappé, including Andrés Cubas grabbing him and Matias Galarza making contact off the ball. Juan José Cáceras kicked him in the right shin in the 77th minute.

Despite these challenges, Paraguay did not receive any yellow cards during the match. Conversely, France received three yellow cards.

Mbappé commented on the nature of the match, stating that France anticipated a physical encounter and was prepared. He remarked, “We know how to play ugly football. Guess they were thinking we were going to show up in tuxedos, but we were ready. Even at that kind of game, we were better than them.”

France’s coach Didier Deschamps criticized Paraguay’s tactics, saying, “They pull out every trick in the book. It’s not the kind of football that draws people to the stadium. Each team played the way they want. But there were insults from the other bench that I could do without.”
