A D.C. Superior Court judge has instructed the Kennedy Center to cover over $250,000 in legal expenses for jazz artist Chuck Redd. This follows the dismissal of the center’s lawsuit against Redd in June.

Judge Tanya Jones Bosier issued the order on Monday, demanding the center pay $252,000 in legal fees and costs. Redd withdrew from a performance after the venue’s board decided to rename the building in honor of former President Donald Trump.

Redd, known for his long-standing participation in the center’s annual Christmas Eve concert, faced a lawsuit from the venue, which he successfully contested. The legal victory now requires that the center bear the financial burden of Redd’s legal defense.
